Microsoft has launched a new AI Skills Initiative, aiming to equip people and communities worldwide with the ability to utilize AI effectively.

This initiative is a response to the growing demand for AI skills, which are now considered the third-highest priority for companies' training strategies, according to the World Economic Forum. The initiative includes free coursework developed in partnership with LinkedIn, a global grant challenge in coordination with data.org, and increased access to free digital learning events and resources. Generative AI Skills Grant Challenge:
In collaboration with data.org, Microsoft's AI for Good Lab, and GitHub, Microsoft is launching the Generative AI Skills Grant Challenge.
This open grant program aims to explore and implement ways in which nonprofit, social enterprise, and research or academic institutions can train the workforce to use generative AI.
The grant will support organizations driving skilling and economic growth, particularly those focusing on fair and community-led implementations of generative AI with historically marginalized populations. Apply Now
As part of the Skills for Jobs program, Microsoft is partnering with LinkedIn Learning to launch the first Professional Certificate on Generative AI in the online learning market.
This coursework will be available for free through 2025 and will be launched in multiple languages over the coming months.
Additionally, Microsoft will release a trainer toolkit for educators and the Microsoft Learn AI Skills Challenge, a free technical training challenge to learn essential AI skills with Microsoft products and services. Sign Up
